Leadership is not simply about what we know. It is about who we become, how we relate to others, and the difference we make in the world.
At University for Life, we believe that transformative leadership begins with self-awareness, grows through meaningful experience, and flourishes through relationships grounded in wisdom, authenticity and trust.
We bring together education, research, coaching and experiential learning to explore how individuals, organisations and communities can develop their capacity to think differently, lead purposefully and create positive change.
Our approach is rooted in a simple conviction:
Learning becomes transformative when it changes how we see, understand, relate and act.

Leadership development is often associated with acquiring competencies, mastering frameworks and improving performance.
While knowledge and skills are important, transformative leadership asks deeper questions:
At University for Life, we see leadership as a lifelong process of learning, reflection and transformation.
Wisdom develops when we critically examine our experiences, recognise different perspectives and translate understanding into purposeful action.
Our educational philosophy is informed by experiential learning, reflective practice, critical thinking, systems thinking and a commitment to human flourishing.
We believe that leadership is not confined to formal positions of authority. Educators, researchers, coaches, community activists and social entrepreneurs all exercise leadership when they create possibilities for positive change.
Experience alone does not guarantee learning.
Transformation occurs when we engage meaningfully with our experiences, question familiar assumptions, develop new insights and change how we act.
Through dialogue, reflection, creative inquiry and experiential learning, we seek to create opportunities for people to:
Transformative leadership is not simply about becoming a more effective leader. It is about becoming a more conscious, responsible and humane participant in the world.

Some of the most powerful learning experiences take place beyond traditional classrooms, training rooms and leadership seminars.
Equine-assisted education offers a distinctive opportunity to explore leadership through direct experiences and interactions with horses.
Horses are highly sensitive to their surroundings, movement, body language and the behaviour of other beings. Their responses can create opportunities for participants to become more aware of their own presence, communication and ways of relating.
Unlike conventional leadership training, equine-assisted learning does not rely primarily on lectures, presentations or theoretical explanations.
Instead, participants engage in carefully facilitated experiential activities, often from the ground, followed by reflection and dialogue.
These experiences can help illuminate aspects of leadership that are sometimes difficult to recognise through discussion alone.
Self-awareness and authenticity
Working alongside horses can invite participants to reflect on their intentions, emotional states, non-verbal communication and habitual responses.
Communication and presence
Horses respond to behaviour rather than professional titles or organisational status. Interactions can encourage participants to examine the clarity, consistency and impact of their communication.
Trust and relationships
Equine-assisted activities can create opportunities to explore how trust develops through attentiveness, respect, patience and responsiveness.
Leadership without coercion
Experiences with horses can prompt reflection on the difference between influence and control, and on how leadership might emerge through cooperation rather than domination.
Reflection and transformation
The deepest learning often emerges through thoughtful reflection on what happened, how participants interpreted the experience and what they might choose to do differently.
The value of equine-assisted education lies not in assuming that horses provide answers to human problems, but in the opportunities that skilled facilitators create for meaningful experiential learning.
At University for Life, we believe:
“We cannot say that learning has taken place unless there has been some change or transformation.”
Equine-assisted education offers one way of exploring this principle.
An encounter with a horse may challenge an assumption, reveal an unrecognised pattern, deepen awareness or open up a new way of understanding leadership.
The challenge is to carry that learning beyond the experience itself, into our relationships, workplaces and communities.

University for Life values opportunities to connect different fields of knowledge and practice.
Equine-assisted education offers a particularly interesting meeting point between leadership development, experiential learning, coaching, organisational development and research.
Two important organisations contributing to the development of this field are the European Association for Horse Assisted Education (EAHAE) and HorseDream.
EAHAE is an international association bringing together practitioners and organisations involved in horse-assisted education.
Through its professional network, conferences, knowledge exchange and opportunities for collaboration, EAHAE supports the development and visibility of horse-assisted education.
Its international community offers opportunities for practitioners to learn from one another, share experiences and develop their professional practice.
For educators, researchers, leadership coaches and organisational leaders, EAHAE provides a valuable starting point for discovering the diversity of approaches and expertise within this field.

HorseDream, founded by Gerhard and Karin Krebs, is a pioneering approach to horse-assisted education and leadership development.
Its programmes and facilitator training have contributed to the international development of experiential learning with horses.
The HorseDream approach creates opportunities for participants to explore leadership, communication, relationships and personal development through structured experiences with horses.
For organisations and leadership development professionals interested in experiential approaches, HorseDream offers an established example of how horse-assisted education can be incorporated into professional learning.

University for Life approaches this field from the perspective of education, research, leadership development and lifelong learning.
Our interest is in creating connections between equine-assisted practitioners and wider communities of educators, researchers, coaches and organisational leaders.
By making different approaches and expertise more visible, we hope to encourage dialogue, mutual learning and opportunities for collaboration.
We believe that when people share their knowledge, experiences and networks, they create possibilities that may not emerge when working in isolation.

No individual, organisation or professional community holds all the answers to the challenges of leadership and human development.
At University for Life, we believe that meaningful progress emerges when people bring their different experiences, perspectives and expertise into creative dialogue.
Co-creation is more than working alongside one another.
It involves listening, questioning, sharing, experimenting and developing new understanding together.
We are particularly interested in connecting with people who believe that leadership development should contribute not only to organisational effectiveness, but also to human dignity, wellbeing and social transformation.

We welcome opportunities to explore:
Our intention is not to create another network that demands more time from already busy professionals.
Instead, we want to explore how existing knowledge, relationships and professional communities can become more connected, visible and mutually supportive.
When we connect our individual strengths, we expand our collective capacity to create meaningful change.
Are you an educator, researcher, leadership coach, organisational leader or experiential learning practitioner interested in exploring new possibilities for transformative leadership?
We would welcome a conversation about how our experiences, ideas and professional networks might complement one another.
