301103 The Power of Being Authentic One of the students from the London School of Economics called me to ask what the “Personal Power” module would consist of and I realised that sometimes concepts seem to be so obvious to us just because we are so familiar with them and it’s easy to forget that our meaning is only conveyed accurately if the listener understands our model of the world. I gave the following summarised explanation of what I mean by “personal power” or what I call the “power of being authentic”. Some people can walk into a room and the whole atmosphere changes with their presence….these people may be referred to as the “life and soul of the party”….in a group, these are the people everyone looks at for leadership even though they haven’t said a word ….there is something about the aura of these people that gives the impression that they have a great deal of “personal power” which is not based on external forms of power such as physical, economic, political or military….external forms of power can be taken away….physical strength can be lost, political status can be taken away and money can be stolen….personal power is the form of power that cannot be lost or stolen as it comes from within and is a part of our natural self. It can be developed when we have the courage to expand our comfort zones and be more of who we really are….if Nelson Mandela lost all his worldly possessions and status and landed in a remote island where no-one had heard of him, he would still have strong “personal power”. “All power is from within, and is absolutely under your control; it comes through exact knowledge and by the voluntary exercise of exact principles” The Delfin System p.15 |
