The power of knowing where you are and deciding
where you want to go
When you go to a train station you can ask for a ticket to take
you to your destination. The ticket seller needs to know where you
want to go….
“what is your destination?” before selling you the ticket to get
you there. If you don’t know where you want to go, can you imagine
the difficulty you may have in asking anyone to help you get there?
“Excuse me, can you help me get somewhere please?”
“Which somewhere?”
“ I don’t know” J J
In a coaching relationship, you need even more clarity than knowing
where you want to go. Not only do you have to decide where you want
to go, you have to tell your coach where you are right now. You
have to be like a pilot asking traffic control for directions. In
order to gain accurate feedback, you have to tell traffic control
exactly where you are and where you wish to go in order for them
to tell you whether you are “on track” or “off track”. Your coach,
or traffic control, can only give you feedback ….they can’t fly
your plane for you! J J
So ask yourself some powerful coaching questions?
1.Where am I in my life?
2.Where am I headed? (think carefully about this….it’s not always
in the desired direction!)
3.How am I going to get to where I really want to be?
