“Kaizen”, the principle of continuous improvement.
Before the 1950s, Japanese products had the reputation of being
cheap and shoddy it seems ( I wasn’t around, but that’s what all
the MBA textbooks say)….After the second world war, the Japanese
were coached by an American called Edwards Deming to use the concept
of “Kaizen” which is a Japanese term meaning “continuous improvement”.
This principle of kaizen proved to be a vital part of the most effective
business strategy the Japanese used called TQM (Total Quality Management)
to transform their international reputation. The image of ‘cheap
and shoddy’ Japanese products became ‘high quality and reliable’
Japanese products in a relatively short period of time.
So how can you apply the principle of kaizen, continuous improvement,
to your business or your life as a whole for that matter?
Ask yourself some good coaching questions everyday:
1. How can I improve my performance continuously?
2. What can I do better today?
