260406 Finding the One in a Million This afternoon, I was interviewed by GEO TV station about my book "Finding the One in a Million" and one of the questions the presenter asked me was about why people are finding it so difficult to find suitable partners with whom to share their lives with these days. She asked if it might be due to the high level of unhappiness in families and I responded that "unhappiness" is not a modern emotion. We must have had "unhappiness" in families throughout the ages. Perhaps survival depended on a greater level of acceptance and tolerance of this "unhappiness" in the past. Nowadays, with a greater emphasis on self- realisation and fulfillment of individual dreams and potential, people are less willing to compromise and prefer to search for their "ideal life" instead. The irony is that the ensuing loneliness & isolation often creates a higher level of pain and anguish than the suffering they sought to escape. When people confuse "suffering" with "negative thinking" they may justify turning their back on even their family members and friends in a quest for personal fulfillment and personal happiness. |
