250704a Coaching Our Own Bodies When we are consciously aware of the wisdom within that protects us and heals us, it speeds up the healing process as I will illustrate with a couple of recent examples from my own life: Most of you will remember reading about my joyful experiences in Hawaii a few months ago and those of you that know me personally or read my weblogs will know that one of my adventures included almost drowning in Hanauma Bay, Honolulu JJ You could read the story by clicking here: Honolulu Ecademy Member Saved My Life! At the time, my friend Vincent (from Honolulu) thought that it would make a great coaching story for my Success Newsletter because it provided the metaphor of how we can be living our lives quite happily until something dramatic happens and suddenly we lose control and need a coach or guide to get us back on track again. I thought it was too personal to include in my newsletter. However, something similar happened again this week and I believe there is educational value in sharing how I always bounce back so quickly from my "fights with life" JJ Earlier this week, I was walking to my college to teach an afternoon class after a leisurely lunch....it is a walk that I have done for many years and therefore can be in a state of unconscious "robot control" ....I walked along the street and then turned towards the concrete steps leading down to the college and carried on walking at the same pace as the street level ...ever walked in air? JJ In one split second I noticed there was no more street under my feet; just concrete steps...the next second I noticed that I was flat on the floor with two passers-by struggling to get me back on my feet. When they did manage to get me on my feet I stood there rooted like a tree because I couldn't move ...my ankle had blown up like a balloon and I had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance as I couldn't hop on one foot even with the help of my colleagues at the college who gathered round to help. While I sat at the hospital in throbbing pain in both my ankle and wrist, I wondered about the possibility of having my foot in plaster for a few months and decided against it. I made a conscious decision that my foot was NOT going to be in plaster and that the pain would subside. Using the same techniques I used to walk on fire with Tony Robbins and others, I managed to heal my own foot within a few hours so that all I needed was a bandage for a couple of days (who said there wasn't a practical use to firewalking! JJ) Two days later, I happened to be coming downstairs at the college again when the First Aider who had tended to me was passing by...He stared at my ankles in utter disbelief and looked up and down the flight of stairs wondering how I had come down so smoothly...."Miracles happen!" I assured him when he told me he hadn't expected to see me back for at least 5 or 6 weeks. How often do you make miracles happen in your life? |
