200903 The Power of your Inner Circle One of the most common reasons why my clients fail to achieve their goals is because of a weak inner circle.....however, it seems that most don't even realise the importance of having an "inner circle".....in other words, a support system. When we are born, our "inner circle" is usually our parents and siblings....the support system that provides us with food and shelter until we can fend for ourselves. Psychological research shows that it is not just food and shelter that the newborn baby needs but also love and affection. If a child does not receive love and affection in the form of human touch for example, it dies....this is called the "failure to thrive syndrome". Tony Robbins uses this theory to correct people's perception if they complain a lack of love in their childhood....."If you're alive, it means someone must have loved you......you would have died otherwise!" In terms of achieving goals however, the blood family may not be the appropriate inner circle to rely on for support if your lifestyle and what you hope to achieve is very different to what anyone in your family has ever done. So you need to create what Tony Robbins calls "the seventh power"....a group of people you trust; who believe in you and continuously set higher standards for you while supporting you exactly where you are at. So who is your Seventh Power? Who is in your inner circle? Make sure you know, because it can be the difference between falling flat on your face and being raised to a higher level of being, which is the purpose of goals after all. If you are a leader, how have you created and managed your inner circle? Would love your feedback..... |
