 E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber

Whenever I have coached clients in work related issues, I have always encouraged them to “Do the work they love”….I thought that was quite a sophisticated modern day attitude…..so I was shocked to hear Michael Gerber, author of “E-Myth Revisited” say that people who encourage you to “Do the work you love” are in fact encouraging you to “stay small”….he said “ Discover the love you haven’t touched and you will be transformed”….that is quite a profound statement, so I will repeat it:

“ Discover the love you haven’t touched and you will be transformed”

Michael Gerber is apparently very committed to personal growth and believes that a business owner’s “purpose in life” can be actualised through his or her business….sounds like my kind of guy, so I am going to buy his book and read it like millions of other people….I encourage you to read it too….you can buy it at:

E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber

Why do I recommend you buy the book? Because he talks about how you can stop being “busy, busy, busy…..doing it, doing it, doing it!” and instead create a business that would work even if you weren’t there. He distinguishes between an entrepreneur, manager and technician where the entrepreneur is the visionary or the inventor of the business; the manager is the inventor of systems through which the entrepreneur’s vision will be manifested and the technician is the producer. In order to take yourself from the status of being a self-employed practice builder, to being a business owner and then the owner of an enterprise, you need to be spending 80% of your time in the entrepreneur mode, 15% of your time in manager mode and only 5% of your time in technician mode. If you are a small business owner with aspirations for creating an enterprise, then learn from the systems used by someone like Gerber who has done just that over the last 25 years or so.
