Designing Impressive Business Cards

Many of my clients request feedback on their business cards and the best written advice that I would  point you to is that given by Debbie Jenkins If you are still in the process of designing your business cards, you can download 26 pages of useful information regarding the design and purpose of your business cards from her website. If you don't have time to do that, just ask yourself the following 2 questions:

What is the purpose of your business card?

What do you expect people to do with your card?

For me, my business card is my best PR agent. I am very often at networking events now where people recognise me before I have ever met them. They have seen my photo on either my business card that their friends have shown them or an e-mail with a signature that I have sent them. I designed my business card to gain recognition and to make a strong association between my logo (the lotus flower) and my photo...if you have seen my business card, you will note that the front side of my card is very simple with just my photo, logo, name and website address. Less is better. People remember more if they have less to remember.

On the reverse of my card, I have a list of benefits of using my services and a call to action in addition to the rest of my contact details.

Most marketing people will tell you to use BOTH sides of your card...blank reverse sides are a waste of space.

If you want people to KEEP your card, you must give them a reason not to throw it away...for example a meaningful quote; a calendar; a special offer. I have had to throw away a few cards because they were too large for my card holder.....to be honest with you, I have also thrown away a few laminated cards because I couldn't write on them! I have thousands of business cards and months later, I can't remember who people are unless I have written on their cards where I met them...so think about the two simple questions above in evaluating the design of your card and if you have time, download the free advice about designing cards from Debbie Jenkins website.
