040704a Using Failure as Feedback There are so many examples of successful people that have refused to give up on their dreams and used every seeming "failure" as an opportunity to grow. Soichiro Honda, the founder of the Honda corporation is one example. Anthony Robbins often uses the story of Honda to inspire people to make determined decisions to succeed. Soichiro Honda started his corporation as a poor student in 1938 and spent many financially tough years designing a piston ring that Toyota would eventually buy. In order to build a factory to produce his piston rings, he needed concrete which was unavailable in pre-World War 11 Japan so he and his supporters found innovative ways of producing concrete. During the war, his factory was mostly destroyed by US bombing but Honda saw an opportunity in using the fuel cans dropped by bomber planes as raw materials for his piston manufacturing process. In the post-war Japanese conditions, when people had no petrol to drive their cars, Honda designed the first "motor-bike" by attaching a little motor to a bike. The rest is history! People thought he had a very "lucky" idea....luck comes to those who keep their doors open to creative solutions. |
