Cultural differences in business
Being a good international business person requires
communication styles that take cultural differences
into account….If you believe that it is adequate
to have an attitude that everybody’s equal and
“I treat everyone the same!” ….good luck to
you!
We are NOT the same! We have different values
and perceptions. Ever had a business meeting
with a couple of Americans and a couple of Japanese?
You might have found it was hard to get a word
in edgeways with the Americans whereas it was
difficult to ascertain whether the Japanese
really had anything to say. Silence has a very
different meaning culturally….for some, silence
is an awkward embarrassing moment in a meeting
which needs to be filled QUICK before anyone
notices…for others, silence is a sign of respect
and willingness to allow others to participate…..
Think about your most boisterous friend and
your gentlest friend….would you behave in the
same way with them at a business meeting?….the
key lies in connecting at the same level of
vibration …or wavelength….and respecting the
DIFFERENCES in wavelength…..this is how Neuro-Linguistic
Programming (NLP) techniques are applied to
make strategic differences in the outcome of
the meeting…what’s NLP?!
